" You call it Luck , I call it destiny . " He was destined to reach this far. The man with the voice reaches 90 !!

He may not be as versatile as Clint Eastwood, but that's the only difference you may discern. And it gets as far as this - its almost like settling a nail biting match in Tie - Braker . While Clint has won multiple Oscars in all departments including 2 as best director , this man has won an Academy for Best Supporting Actor . That's all as far as difference - both of them have survived the tumultuous  rugged terrain of life and its vagaries to reach this seminal milestone - 90.. And it attributes to their tremendous physical capacity. I thought of  starting off with a pic when he was at his height of sex appeal and glamour , but decided against it . Age and time waits for none, and readers should get a fair plate of their shock to look at a man who we all including yours truly love to look as an youthful man ever - that i guess is the illusion of the glitterati that movies produce and offer - long after you are gone , your images and your screen space remains unforgettable.

After the shock is over - lets take a look back at why this man is in the pantheons of great. Everyone has a view about this man , to each his own , but it would not be unfair to say if Clint was raw sexuality and a heartthrob this man was no less - almost operating in the same era he also started his acting career in the early 50's and his first movie  came in  1957  three years after Clint made his debut .  And he had to struggle for 5 full years till 1962 when it happened to him , much like Clint whose first big break was in 1964. He was not  even a star by any means and he was reluctant to commit to any series but knew very well that to become successful he had to accept this  , there was no alternative and to put it this way - if the films succeeded he would become a major name in Hollywood. There was no precedence set for this series , and no set rules and the creator of the series  himself was not very sure about his rugged image , but his girlfriend pushed him to believe that he had the requisite sexual charisma , and he changed his mind. After the successful premiere of the first of the series which also is one of the most iconic , indeed a star was born .  JAMES BOND made Sean Connery an overnight star - a stardom which even today is as fresh as the roses you would buy from a polished  flower-shop.

Connery became famous with Bond , but once he became famous he grew tired with it. Unlike Clint who had grown into other roles before comfortably slipping in as an Director , Connery was over burdened being the first of the franchisee Hero and often he was synonymous being a Bond although he was and is much better off than being a Bond alone. His canvas and wide repertoire may not be as huge as Clint but he is definitely one of the best actors UK & Scotland has ever had . The Man who would be King (1975) & Robin & Marian (1976) bears ample testimony to the fact of the acting prowess of Sean who never outgrew his career as Bond unfortunately .

His acting prowess finally came into fore in THE UNTOUCHABLES (1987) where he gave a stellar performance as a hard hitting Irish- American cop trying to catch Al Capone and finally succumbing to bullets not before he gave it all - his only Academy Award till date .  From 1989 - 1999 his films of note are : Indiana Jones & the last Crusade , Hunt for Red October , The Rock & Entrapment . But however he may have tried to come out of his sexy suave British Agent image , his acting prowess was always overshadowed.  In the end Sean Connery remains a sex symbol mainly confined to his 007 image . How History will treat him is a matter of conjecture !!
